The QBZ-191 is the latest Chinese assault rifle closely resembling AR15 or HK416 rifles. The video shows recruits in the Chinese Army practicing with the new rifles.
The rifle is chambered for the Chinese 5.8×42mm cartridge, also domestically designed in China.
In the video, the recruits don’t seem to be using scopes that come with the rifles, possibly to reduce maintenance costs.
The rifle is a short-stroke piston gas-operation automatic weapon, in a way it is closer to HK416 compared with the AR15. This makes Russia the only country not adopting an overall structure of AR15.
It is a milestone in Chinese infantry weapon history. The rifle will replace the Type 95 rifle, and possibly export to other countries.
The organization that designed this new rifle is the 208 Research Institute, which also designed the Type 95 rifle. Type 95 is a controversial weapon, reports are claiming it fell behind the international standard of rifle technology, and it is clear that the QBZ-191 design is close to what other major military powers have.
There is not much detail about how the QBZ-191 performs in practice, but obviously, the new weapon is being deployed to more and more Chinese Army units.
