Apatheia, in Stoicism, refers to a state of mind in which one is not disturbed by the passions. Much like the seven cardinal sins in Christian teachings, Stoic philosophy includes vices and virtues to follow. The unhealthy passions according to practical stoicism include, pain, fear, craving and delight.
Apatheia is not to be confused with apathy or indifference.
In the pursuit of eudaimonia, or true happiness and fulfillment, there are certain vices that one may need to avoid, and Apatheia and its breakdowns can serve as a great starting point.
