My ATAS-120A was acting quirky and locking up so I disassembled it for inspection. BE VERY CAUTIOUS if you attempt to do the same.
The ATAS antenna needs a very good RF ground to function properly. Most problems that people encounter with them are ground related. Another issue is that the center pin of the PL-259 style base connector it uses is slightly smaller than other center pins resulting in a loose electrical contact with the antenna mount. One way to correct this is to bend the prongs of the mating connector inward slightly so that a good contact is maintained.
