Education and Qualifications:
I am a Canadian Certified Counselor (CCC) and a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate with the Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT). I completed my Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Counseling/ Therapy (MFT) from Capella University, Minneapolis, Unites States. I received my Bachelor of Arts from The American University in Cairo. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Applied Psychophysiology at Saybrook University.
Experience:
I completed my training as a marriage and family therapist under the Addictions program at the Punjabi Community Health Services (PCHS), Ontario, Canada. I worked with a culturally diverse group of couples on salvaging their relationships. My professional experience includes working with individuals, couples and families where one or more family members are experiencing a mental health crisis.
Modalities:
I work with individual clients, couples, and families on their relationship problems. As an advocate for client rights in the face of systemic barriers; I work primarily from a systemic framework to empower my clients. I employ a range of therapeutic modalities including Solution-Focused, Structural, Narrative, and emotion-focused techniques. I incorporate cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based techniques to teach clients practical skills to improve their mental and physical wellbeing. I am trained in Trauma Treatment and Crisis intervention.
Personal Philosophy:
We all have a deep-seated need to be heard and understood. I am humbled by how a little unconditional positive regard and compassion allow us to find our own path of self-healing and reach our fullest potential. I believe that real change occurs in the context of relationships. I work very closely with my clients to foster change in family dynamics. As a trauma-informed and affirmative therapist, I am dedicated to providing a safe environment for my clients.
