"Francis Poulenc's Concerto D minor for two pianos is an interesting mix of strong, even "crazy" percussion and expressive beauty. The fringes of contrasts create a delicious whole that lurks in the constant dialogue between pianists and the orchestra. In this concert, the soloists are, above all, chamber musicians.
Concerto was commissioned by and dedicated to the Princess Edmond de Polignac and composed over the period of three months in the summer of 1932. In the past, this French composer had met a Balinese percussionist, which inspired him greatly. Shamanistic rhythms can be heard as the driving force of the Concerto.
Francis Poulanc's 120th Anniversary season 2019-2020 will be celebrated all over the Globe starting on January 7, 2019*
