Enjoy a drive thru Texas Hill Country during peak wildflower season! Located about 1.5 hours West of Austin, the drive is mostly on FM 1323 toward Willow City Loop. You'll see numerous patches of vibrant bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush and other wildflower varieties mixed together flash by as colorful streaks.
Deep in the heart of Texas people look forward to the bluebonnets blooming every spring, and the experts at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center are predicting the 2024 wildflower season to be a "banner year of blooms." On a scale of 1 to 10, they are expecting an 8 for wildflowers in general, but especially for bluebonnets. The superbloom will likely be boosted by the 2023 drought and the amount of rain in recent months.
Austin and most of Central Texas is part of the "bluebonnet belt," where a large number of bluebonnets bloom. In this region, the state flowers tend to start coming out towards the end of March through mid-to-late April.
