Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez - November 23, 2020 - Anthony’s Cari-Jazz Artiste of the Day
Hailing from a family entrenched in music and possessed with a passion and drive so characteristic of the genre, Cuban master percussionist Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez started playing music when given a set of drums by his father at the age of two and he has never tired of playing in his “amusement park.”
‘Restless and precocious’, describes Horacio’s childhood and, his music exudes passion, bold enquiry, bravado and straight up Latin fire.
An alumnus of famous groups headed by Afro-Cuban jazz pianist and composer, Gonzalo Rubalcalba and pianist and composer from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Michel Camilo, Grammy winner Hernandez (“El Negro”) continues his prodigious output with his own large ensemble. He now heads the “Italuba Big Band,” a project nearly 15 years in the making. Here is Horacio "El Negro Hernandez and Italuba Big Band with: “Puerto Rico”.
