Triconex Safety Validator allows you to create and organize tests in any way that suits your needs. However, when you have an extensive application to test, taking a little time in the beginning to plan will help you save time later.
When planning your test project, consider the following:
• Optimal performance
Follow these guidelines to design test projects for optimal performance:
— Recommended maximum number of test steps per test project: 200,000.
— Recommended maximum number of test steps per test suite: 10,000.
— Recommended maximum number of test cases per test suite: 1,000.
If you plan to have more than 10,000 test steps, divide the test steps across multiple test suites.
• Common routines
Break your total steps into multiple test cases based on your common routines.
Organizing your tests enables you to call one test case from another without recreating the exact test steps multiple times.
For example, you might create an “Initialize Routine” test case and a “Reset Fault Routine” test case. You could then use the Call command to call one test case from another test suite.
• Reuse
Templates enable you to reuse groups of steps across test cases, test suites, and test projects.
Using templates, you can create a set of test cases that you then use with different parameters. By editing the parameters, you can use templates to execute tests across multiple controllers.
