Last Saturday saw me and the boy return to the River Thames for another session on the pole to see what we could catch from what has become our favorite stretch of the Thames so far. Pole fishing was the order of the day and with the river looking to have less pace on it than last week but the same colour I was sure we were in for a good day.
My son started on a 3g AS8 0.13 to 0.11 and a size 18 Guru Kuranku on blue Hydro while I opted for a heavier rig on 0.17 to 0.15 with white Hyrdo as I wanted to see how much difference it would make and while I caught he was catching 2 to my 1 despite us using the same feed - 3x balls of 1/3 Sensas River, 1/3 Sensas Roach and1/3 soil laced with caster, dead maggot and a few tares tares. The rig was clearly making a difference and I could feel myself bumping the roach so eventually I scaled down and had much more success.
As the day went on I also decided to try out my new Cralusso flat floats having had a lesson after my outing last week determined to catch a bonus fish and they worked really well. 8g "Tordedo" was enough to hold still in the flow and as you can see from the thumbnail for the video I was rewarded with a lovely 3lb 11oz Perch (we did weight it) that fell to a dendra with the top and bottom removed.
If anyone has any questions about the rigs or set up for the day that you cannot work out from the video please drop a message below and I'll do my best to answer it.
