(Cst. Dowd standing by police cruiser) Hello, my name is Cst. Dowd from the Saskatchewan RCMP.
Starting April 1, 2024, Saskatchewan RCMP will be conducting mandatory alcohol screenings during every traffic stop on Saskatchewan roadways.
I’m here to explain what you can expect during a mandatory alcohol screening if you are stopped by the Saskatchewan RCMP.
(Cst. Dowd walking up to driver and vehicle holding the Alco-Sensor FST device) Officers will conduct a mandatory alcohol screening at either at your vehicle or the police cruiser at the officer’s discretion.
(Show Alco-Sensor FST device) The screening will take approximately 90 seconds and officers will be using the Alco-Sensor FST device.
(Driver using Alco-Sensor FST device) Once the screening begins, you will be asked to blow into the device for a few seconds at a consistent pace.
(Show Alco-Sensor FST device) The officer will advise you once the test is complete and read you the results.
(Cst. Dowd standing by the cruiser) The Mandatory Alcohol Screening is issued in accordance with the Criminal Code of Canada.
The purpose of the screening is to reduce impaired driving in Saskatchewan making our roads safer.
Traffic safety remains a priority for the Saskatchewan RCMP, and we all have a role to play – always plan a safe ride home.
