Hey everyone! In this video, I’m going to show you how to use China Payments Plugin to accept WeChat Pay with WooCommerce using your Stripe account.

WeChat Pay for WooCommerce is a PRO feature of China Payments Plugin, and our development team has worked hard to extend WooCommerce so that payments flow seamlessly.

After installing and activating China Payments Plugin on your WordPress site, you can use Stripe Connect to connect your Stripe account in a few clicks.

You’ll need to connect in both TEST and LIVE modes independently.

Make sure you’ve already activated WeChat Pay in the Stripe Dashboard.

It may take a few days to get WeChat Pay activated, and you’ll want to make sure your business meets the requirements.

A link to more details about the requirements for WeChat Pay can be found in the description of this video.

After you’ve connected Stripe, install and activate WooCommerce.

I’m not going to go through all the fancy setup steps for WooCommerce in this video, so I’m going to skip the setup process.

WeChat Pay is activated automatically in the WooCommerce payment settings, as seen here.

I’m going to create a quick test product to show you the checkout process.

Let’s take a look at our product, add it to the cart, and try to check out.

You can see the WeChat Pay QR code generated directly inline in the WooCommerce checkout.

In TEST mode, you can just scan the QR code with any mobile camera that supports reading QR codes.

I’ll approve the TEST payment on my mobile device, and WooCommerce then redirects the customer to the payment confirmation page with their order details.

Now, there’s a few other important details to know, so let’s get into the nitty-gritty.

At this stage of the WeChat Pay + Stripe integration, when you’re in Live Mode, the customer must physically scan the QR code with the WeChat mobile app camera function.

I recommend watching our other video that breaks down the Stripe + WeChat Pay integration to learn about what the integration offers, it’s limitations, and the checkout approaches that Chinese customers might attempt that currently result in errors.

What’s important to know now is that as long as customers scan the QR code with their camera, they’ll be good to go.

The next important thing to cover is currencies.

You can set your WooCommerce store currency to any of the supported currencies for WeChat Pay and Stripe, which may include CNY, USD, Euro, Japanese Yen, and others.

You will not incur any currency conversion fees if your WooCommerce store currency and the settlement currency of the payment is the same as the default currency of your Stripe account.

If your WooCommerce store currency is set to any other currency, you will have conversion fees.

This isn’t always ideal for WooCommerce store owners who want to both avoid fees and provide a good checkout experience by displaying CNY pricing for their Chinese customers.

To alleviate this issue for Store owners who want to display pricing in their default Stripe currency, we've added a currency conversion API that displays the CNY equivalent of the total checkout amount before scanning the QR code.

To enable the currency conversion API, go to the China Payments Plugin settings, and under the currency tab there is a detailed explanation of how it works.

Obtain a free API key from the 3rd party site, and enter it into the plugin settings.

The currency conversion amount will automatically appear on the checkout page after that.

Keep in mind that no matter what currency your WooCommerce store is set to, Chinese customers will always pay in CNY with their WeChat Pay mobile wallets anyway, so they will see the conversion amount in the WeChat APP after scanning the QR code.
