Renoviction: when a landlord cites the need for major renovations as a reason to evict a tenant before the end of their lease.
Most Canadian jurisdictions have laws in place to protect tenants from this shady landlord behaviour, and yet there's been a 294% increase in landlords evicting tenants for fabricated reasons over the past year.
To mitigate this, the province of Ontario has developed a new provincial proposal to better protect tenants from eviction under unlawful terms.
In this video, Barrie Realtor Michael Keogh of RE/MAX Hallmark Chay Realty covers everything Ontario tenants need to know about their rights as renters if their landlord asks them to leave before the lease is up.
As a tenant in Ontario, know your rights! Don’t sign anything from your landlord stating that you need to move out until you've sought out professional legal advice.
