(8 Mar 2022) International Women's Day was not forgotten as Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war with Russia continue to arrive in Poland.
Woman and girls were handed flowers on Tuesday at Przemysl train station by a Franciscan monk and noted Catholic charity worker.
"I found that it was very important to see mothers and wives in them, alone, abandoned at the railway station," said Cordian Szwarc from Caritas Poland.
Many fleeing Ukraine feel not only the stress of finding a new life for themselves and their children, but the trauma of having left husbands, brothers and fathers behind to defend their country from Russia's invasion.
One of the refugees who did not gave her name said she was thankful that Poland was taking care of them.
The number of refugees fleeing Ukraine reached two million on Tuesday, according to the United Nations, the fastest exodus Europe has seen since World War II.
