“Space and National Security” will survey how space has factored into U.S. national security from the days of Sputnik to the emerging era of great power competition. The presentation will describe potential threats and policy responses facing American space-power today…. and will discuss future possibilities and challenges, as well as the role space has played in the Ukraine-Russia war.
Professor David Burbach is an associate professor in the National Security Affairs Department here at the Naval War College. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in government from Pomona College. He currently teaches U.S. foreign policy, international relations and space security. His scholarly interests include civil-military relations, defense planning and the relationship between international security and technology, particularly with regard to space and nuclear issues. Before joining the Naval War College faculty in 2007, Prof. Burbach taught at the Army's School of Advanced Military Studies and worked for several policy analysis and information technology organizations, and in astronomy and space education.
