Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker has tried using AI to write an episode of his show, but the results were less than stellar. In an interview with Empire, Brooker said that the AI-generated script was "s***." He explained that the AI simply looked up all the synopses of Black Mirror episodes and "mush[ed] them together." As a result, the script lacked any original thought.
Brooker's experience with AI writing is a reminder that machines are still a long way from being able to create truly creative content. While AI can be helpful for tasks like generating ideas or brainstorming new concepts, it's still up to humans to put the finishing touches on any creative work.
In the meantime, fans of Black Mirror can look forward to the show's sixth season, which is set to premiere on Netflix in 2023. The new season will feature six standalone episodes, each written by a different writer.
