The United States and Australia were allied during the Second World War, fighting against the Japanese Empire and against Nazi Germany on the European Continent. Yet two incidents on the Australian mainland between U.S. soldiers and Australians put quite a bit of pressure on their respective militaries, politicians, and goodwill.
