I made this quick commparison video of a M135i manual (top left) VS the same car with a 8 speed ZF Auto (bottom right) doing 0-100mph. They both hit 30 at exactly the same time (showing I got consistent launches), the manual then looses about two tenths of a second between 30 & 60 due to the much slower manual gear change, but then the manual claws back one of those tenths once it engages its much longer third gear all the way up to 100mph, the auto needs 4th gear at just 75. On a good surface the best times I recorded using a V-box was - Auto 0-60 4.52 seconds, 0-100 10.75. Manual 0-60 4.74, 0-100 10.86. There is hardly anything in it time wise, the 3.0 N55 engine has so much low down torque that long gearing is evidently just as effective as a shorter ratio quick changing auto that would normally help a high revving narrow power band engine.
Thanks for watching.
