For Sherry Pinkstaff, exercise was her life. As a professor of physical therapy at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, and a research collaborator at Mayo Clinic's Florida campus, she spent her days teaching students and patients about the power of exercise and its impact on cardiovascular health.
But then on a November morning in 2015, at age 39, Sherry suffered a stroke that left her unable to speak or use her right arm and leg.
Thanks to the specialized stroke team at Mayo Clinic’s Comprehensive Stroke Center in Jacksonville, today, Sherry is not only a stroke survivor but an advocate, sharing her story in honor of May's Stroke Awareness Month.
