Visiting Schloss Neuschwanstein from Munich, Germany is an easy day trip. I took a regional train from Munich Hauptbahnhof (Central Train Station) to the town of Füssen. Travel time was a solid 2 hours. From there is was a simple transfer onto a bus for a short ride to a drop-off point for visiting the castle. Actually you will see castles written as plural on the bus stop signs, as there is another castle near-by. From there you can walk, hike, ride another shuttle bus or take a horse-drawn carriage to get up the hill where the castle is located. The walk is easier if you follow the road. I chose to do the hike on a trail, which is more strenuous. All options lead to the same place, which is a parking lot that's not quite at the castle. There is a geocache hidden near-by too, for those that play. From there it's an easy uphill walk on a paved roadway the rest of the way up to the castle. There are souvenir shops and places to get water/snacks on the walk to the castle. Once up at the base of the castle you can turn left if you're taking an inside tour or turn right and keep walking to reach the trailhead for Marienbrücke, the bridge with a view. Everything is clearly marked. Notice: The bridge is not always open.
