9 min VIDEO OF PIT LANE & ON BOARD CAMERA ACTION from last weekends race weekend.
The MRDC race team entered 3 cars (2 x GTI-R360's and a BMW compact) in the Andalucian Touring Car Championships with races 5 & 6 being held at Circuito Monteblanco. A fast track with tight corners and rough surface, which really took a toll on the tires of every car racing last weekend.
It was the first ever race for the new one-make GTI-R360 cup cars which should be in class D4 towards the front end of the Touring Car Grid. However, unfortunately we were put at the back of a second grid of D5 Super Touring Cars (much faster & more expensive GT4, TCR and up to 420-500 bhp Seat Leon Super Cups with ground effects, which were also racing full GT D6 race cars, Radicals and Formula cars. So Peter Bowerman (aka Spear) and Elger Bouwman were only really racing each other, but the first race weekend definitely showed how exciting a full grid of these new GTI-R360’s would be, as Spear and Elger raced bumper to bumper and regularly overtook each other in both races. Tire degradation and engine problems for other D5 drivers meant both MRDC drivers actually managed a D5 podium position, one in each race.
Hans Peter Dalen (aka Sin Diesel) unfortunately had a nightmare of a weekend blowing a big hole through the engine of his BMW compact during practice and was unable to compete in the races. Big Chris, JJ, Wall Street, Roger, Steven, Rasca & Javi were all assisting as mechanics during the race weekend.
Let’s hope that Sin Diesel gets a replacement engine quickly and The New GTI-R360 cup cars get put in class D4 with cars running similar lap times. As we are all now looking forward to the next and last race weekend of the year with races 7 & 8 being held at Jerez on the 13th December 2020.
