*BycBoycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Movement*
Founded in 2005, the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) is a Palestinian civil society movement that aims to end international support for Israel’s oppression of Palestinians. Taking inspiration from the South African anti-apartheid struggle, the BDS initiative hopes to exert pressure on Israel, encouraging its adherence to international laws.
Boycotts encompass the withdrawal of support from Israel’s regime, complicit Israeli institutions and international companies engaged in actions that violate Palestinian human rights. Divestment campaigns seek the disinvestment of funds from Israel and companies that contribute to Israeli apartheid.
Sanctions campaigns aim to compel governments by banning business with illegal Israeli settlements, ending military and free-trade agreements and suspending Israel’s membership in international forums such as UN bodies.
