Failed inlet cam phaser. There was around 5 degrees of play and when timing was locked it was very off. Symptoms were, loud knocking on start up and shut down. And intermittent diesel engine noise (see other video). No codes, so wasnt absolutely failed. This engine is used in many different applications including Vectras, Zafiras and some chevrolet. Timing tools are a must with this job as there is no woodruff key on the cam phasers. Held in place by pressure alone. Also recomend a 15/16 low profile open end spanner to hold cam shafts while angle torquing. Or in my case a 23mm and a die grinder. 2 man job.
