An independent group that advises the US government says Afghanistan has lost control of 15 percent of the country to the Taliban in one year.
According to the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), 6,785 Afghan soldiers and police were killed between January 1 and November 12 in 2016. Another 11,777 were wounded.
The sustained violence is leading to mass displacement and instability.
Al Jazeera's Caroline Malone reports.
