The Pskov Kremlin, also known as Pskov Krom is an ancient citadel in the city of Pskov overlooking the River Velikaya... The Cathedral of the Trinity towers over the inner courtyard and was originally constructed of wood in the medieval age. The stone building replaced the first church in 1138. Although destroyed and rebuilt several times over the following centuries, the present cathedral dates to 1691.
The Cathedral of the Annunciation was completed in 1888. The cathedral was funded, in part, by the Pskov merchant, Ivan Chernov. The interior was completed in 1898...
In 1920-1922, the Annunciation Cathedral as well as the Trinity was transferred to the Renovationists (a schismatic movement in the Russian Orthodox Church in 1922-1940s). In 1929 the Trinity cathedral was used as a temporary grain warehouse.
In 1933 the Cathedral of the Annunciation was blown up as it was not considered of great architectural or historic value in such can ancient place.... Today a memorial cross has been placed on the site....
