Budapest Jazz Orchestra presents:
QUEEN - Real JAZZ
Homage to the music of Queen
The world famous and renowned Budapest Jazz Orchestra, Hungary's number one jazz big-band, has undertaken a most singularly ambitious plan of making Queen's songs be heard in jazz style.
The idea, which at first may sound unusual or even shocking, was a long-cherished dream of jazz drummer Zsolt Madai. The preliminary arrangements for the grand project began the moment BJO's artistic director Gábor Kollmann showed interest in this special opportunity.
It became clear when listening to the works of Queen and browsing through their songs that Queen was not a “simple” rock band only, but rather a creative workshop of composers who loved four distinct musical styles, able to conquer both classical and jazz music fans thanks to their comprehensive compositions and brilliant instrumentation technique. This colorful musical range is what strikes up Queen's indispensable hits in the evening show, with particular instrumental arrangements of course, including less knows songs of the band which listeners may even believe are actually of some other composers.
Jazz music likes pronounced melodies, as the basis of individual improvisations is the varying and rethinking of a given (often well known) melody line. Queen's success owes a lot to Freddie Mercury's musical genius. He was a composer, instrumentalist, singer and an outstanding performer in one.
In this project three solo singers will evoke his Person. Our hope is to make this concert series into a special homage that can prove that crossover genres do exist and can give birth to new qualities. The considerable international interest in the project also supports our belief.
