This is how I transplant my tomato seedlings.
I know that other people do it at a later stage once a pair of true leaves have developed but I find this way is better as there is less root disturbance as there is only a small tap root to remove from the compost.
Simply tease out the seedling roots with a pencil or something similar while gently holding onto one of the seed leaves and then just dib a hole in a pot,drop the seedling in so that the bottom leaves are just above the surface and water in.
Job done.
