Here I have broadly discussed four ways of solid waste disposal which are disposal by open dumps, disposal by landfills, disposal by sanitary landfills, disposal by incineration.

Disposal by Open dumps - In this types heaps of unsegregated garbage is being disposed over a large area which leads of aggravated spread of diseases through insects, soil pollution and ground water pollution.

Landfills - They are an improvement over open dumps but are not as good as sanitary landfills used in developed countries and so cause soil and groundwater pollution in nearby areas.

Sanitary Landfills - They are lined with clay on the interior side and have a gas recovery system with leachate collection system.

Incineration Plants - They are used to burn the non-recyclable garbage in big furnaces especially to treat infectious waste. They have an ash handling plant with heat recovery system and gas pollutant removers to release least toxic gas in the atmosphere.
