Every year, the annual "DesignMarch" festival is hosted in Reykjavik to showcases the highlights of the local Icelandic design scene.
This year we partnered up with the Icelandic University of Arts to host a contest which challenges participants to create something completely new from the 66°North sailor hat, which has been a classic style in 66°North’s collection for decades.
Contestants were allowed to improve and/or alter the hat’s appearance, purpose, size or shape – as long as the hat is the prime subject and the sole material.
The winning entry was a unique full-size dress, made of only 3 hats. The designers, Ingerd and Julie, are third year fashion design students and come from the Faroe Islands and Denmark respectively.
The winning entry, along with the 2nd and 2rd place entry, is showcased in 66°North's flagship store in Reykjavik.
