Dereck and Beverly Joubert are the founders of Great Plains Foundation, a nonprofit that works to restore natural habitats in Africa. Dereck says the Foundation’s work is all about second chances.

When the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting lockdowns began, conservation efforts were shut down, and wildlife rangers were furloughed. Great Plains Foundation started Project Ranger to help pay rangers’ salaries and keep them in the field where they’re able to protect wildlife.

As of February 25, 2021, the Foundation had raised and distributed $500,000.
