In today's video, I give you 3 Pro level Basketball scoring tips to help you instantly make your first step quicker! These simple basketball scoring tips are super easy to implement for players at every level. By implementing these tips into your game you can almost immediately skyrocket your scoring average and your overall basketball skill level!
My first basketball scoring tip is to increase the speed of your first step is one that I tell a ton of players, and that is to "load on the catch." By loading on the catch you are automatically going to have a much quicker first step because your body is ready to explode out into whatever move you are wanting to do to beat your defender. If we look at the elite scorers in the NBA guys like Stephen Curry and James Harden. Those players all take what the defense gives them, they do an absolutely phenomenal job of loading on the catch so they can maximize their explosion! So if you want to really skyrocket your scoring ability the first step is incredibly important.
My second tip to help you instantly increase your first step speed and your ability to score the basketball is to "Stay Loaded!" All of the great scorers in the NBA can score in a lot of different ways. So being able to keep your body loaded is something that as a scorer allows you to exploit the defense in a lot of different ways because you're not limiting your scoring options. This is something we see time and time again when scorers really take the next jump in terms of being unstoppable its when they become a more versatile scoring threat. Think of a guy like Stephen Curry who was an all-time great shooter but when he took his game to an MVP level it was because he started to drive more which made him so much more versatile as an offensive threat.
My last tip to get a lightning quick first step is actually a drill to put these tips to work. My touch and go drill is something that will immediately help you explode your first step quickness. By increasing your first step quickness it can instantly skyrocket your scoring average because it will give you the ability to get where you need to get on the floor whenever you want to do it! That means scoring on the inside, scoring from the midrange, and scoring from 3 point land. If you can do that you are literally going to be unstoppable, so it's something that as basketball players we must train for in our preparation implementing scoring drills to become an elite scorer from all three levels of the floor.
