Today on detransjoy, I wanted to focus the discussion on using cross sex hormones. For females, this would be taking testosterone shots. This testosterone could also come in a gel form or pellets but we will focus on shots for this episode. Also, we will discuss the use of chest binders by transgender males.

So, let’s take a look at testosterone first.

In case you did not know, a female will take testosterone to give the appearance that they are male. Of course, this does not make the female male in any kind of way. Its is an illusion. You see, when females take testosterone they will get lower voices, sometimes grow facial and body hair and will have fat redistribution so their female curves are not as noticeable. The point of taking this drug is to “pass” as the opposite sex.

How long it takes for these changes to happen for an individual depends on that person. For example, within 3 months of first taking testosterone, my voice dropped to what it is today. After about 6 months, I started to have noticeable facial and body hair.

Of course it depends, but after about one year of taking testosterone, usually, a female will start to look very male in most cases due to the “side effects” I have mentioned.

Also, after taking testosterone for over 2 years, there is noticeable facial structure changes that may make the female unrecognizable to their former self.

The next thing I wanted to discuss is chest binding. So, it is possible for a female taking testosterone to “pass” as a male if they bind their breasts. This is usually done with a compression shirt which I’ll know show on the screen.

So, this is a compression shirt that can be worn by a female to give the illusion that they are flat chested like a male. This is what I did since I never got a double mastectomy as part of my transition. Note, this garment is usually worn most all the time in public so that the female “passes” as male.

So, you see without ever having an actual “sex change operation”, a female can look male with just using cross sex hormones and a chest binder. Again, no operation needed.

Also, keep in mind the testosterone changes will most be permanent if the females decides to detransition later. It is also known that binding by females can cause quite a few health issues if done improperly or for great lengths of time. Those health issues will persist during detransition but the breasts themselves may fill somewhat after quitting hormones. They tend to deflate some when the female is on testosterone.

I guess the main point I wanted to make here is to raise awareness of the very powerful nature of cross sex hormones. For you see, it is the hormones not the surgery that will primarily make a female look like a man. That’s where you get your facial hair, squared jawline, body hair ect.
