Welcome to the BD Safety Center in San Diego, California. I'm Kelly Larrabee-Robke, and I'm the Vice President of Clinical Thought Leadership here at BD. Today I'd like to show you around some of the devices, particularly the MedStation ES system and nursing workflows that we want to run through today for you.

Very excited to be here running through some of the benefits, value and workflows associated with the Pyxis MedStation ES system.

Want to talk a little bit today about the value of Pyxis to nursing, why it's important to train our future nurses on the workflows and the capabilities of Pyxis, and also give you some information to support, ensuring the competencies in practice, and the confidence and practice that nursing students need when they make the transition from the practicum environment to the floor, and through licensure onto their career.

Let me talk to you a little bit today about what Pyxis is. Pyxis has been in the market for nearly 30 years. We're really proud and excited about the Pyxis Enterprise System. This allows us to integrate with other systems within the pharmacy, within the operations, within the supply chain of the hospital, to ensure that the medications that are needed for patient care are available to nurses when they need it, where they need it, and how they need it.

We know that nurses spend over 24-25% of their time at a minimum, on medication activities, whether that is on orders, whether that is on education, administering the medication, retrieving the medication, monitoring for signs and symptoms.

So we really want to protect and fortify those activities and optimize them where possible to ensure that nurses are getting the maximum time at the bedside with their patients on those activities that matter most. And we also want to protect the nurse and ensure that they're administering medications at the right time, at the right place, and ensure safety and quality throughout the care delivery process.
Now, there's over four million nurses in the United States today that are RNs.

Within that RN population, there are 60-61% that are still in the inpatient care model. Within that 61%, there's about two million nurses touching a Pyxis every day, and not only are we utilizing Pyxis for our patient care delivery for our medication safety excellence practice, but Pyxis is also connected within the healthcare continuum.

As we talk about healthcare transformation, we really want to focus on improving patient safety, improving quality and controlling costs, but also on the clinician experience, and ensuring that clinicians are empowered with the right tools to do the good work that they do for their patients.

So Pyxis is now incorporated into the technology, infrastructure and system of the hospital, and allows for a collaboration between pharmacy and nursing that ensures the Triple and Quadruple Aim in healthcare today.
