The last and most assured of Coe's three mile world records,run just two days after his rival Steve Ovett had taken the mile WR off of Coe. A class field (no Ovett,of course) had no answer to Coe's speed,only the Kenyan Mike Boit giving him much of a race.Coe took over a second off of the WR,the evergreen Boit following in a new African record.
