Hello, my friends!
TOP Beautiful Buzkashi in the World!
TODAY I WANT TO INTRODUCE YOU TO A NEW GAME THAT IS GAINING MOMENTUM IN THE WORLD!
Buzkashi is a Central Asian horse game, where usually each player plays for himself. Kirghiz and Altaians play kok-boru, Kazakhs play kokpar, Tajiks play buzkashi. The names are different, the game is the same. The word “buzkashi” comes from two Tajik words: buz - “goat” and kashidan - “pull”, “drag”.
Buzkashi is one of the few traditions that were not affected by the law on the regulation of traditions, celebrations and rituals. Some intellectuals criticize buzkashi as a crude game imported from a foreign culture that contains elements of barbarism. In this competition, the carcass of a dead goat or ram is thrown into a circle formed by riders, and the winner is the one who intercepts the carcass and manages to carry it to the center of the field.
Before the game, the carcass is decapitated, gutted and soaked in water for the 24 hours ensuring it stays in one piece and sand is sometimes added for additional weight. To kick things off, it’s then placed in a centre circle where on a signal, horsemen race to grab the carcass and then maintain possession, fighting off each other as the carcass’s elasticity is put to the test.
While variations of the sport are copious with Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, all playing their own versions, in Afghanistan buzkashi has been adopted as the country’s national sport. Games traditionally take place on a Friday and are capable of drawing thousands of fans. In a form known as Qarajai, players score by carrying the carcass around a flag or marker at one end of the field, before throwing it into a scoring circle at the other end called the Circle of Justice. Halves are 45 minutes long with teams consisting of 10 riders, while only five riders from each team can play in a half, as stated by the official guidance set by the Afghan Olympic Federation.
Due to the sport’s intense physicality, it’s widely accepted that a buzkashi player, called a Chapandaz does not mature until he reaches his forties after decades of observation and practice. Similarly, horses experience vigorous training though their rarely owned by the riders themselves. Instead horses belong to the wealthy high society, who look for the experienced master Chapandaz to ride their horses.
Buzkashi equestrian games begin annually in January and continue until the Nowruz holiday. Players who previously competed for modest prizes - sometimes even a goat carcass - can now win even a car or a camel.
The organizers of buzkashi are mainly businessmen and entrepreneurs. Goat wrestling or buzkashi is now considered in Tajikistan to be one of the sports that has recently become widespread in most regions of the country.
At the first competitions in the Shokhin region, the main prizes for buzkashi participants were an Opel car and a camel.
Some believe that high-ranking officials like buzkashi and therefore its holding was not limited, and on the contrary, every year there are more such competitions. During most competitions, the names of Tajik officials or wealthy businessmen are named as horse owners.
This year, the competition in the Shokhin district also attracted many participants and spectators.
Now, the difference between the competitions from the past to the current ones is only that guests, riders from other countries, began to participate in them.
I hope you are enjoy today's video!
