Thoughtless, poorly planned, environmentally harmful suburban sprawl has impacted many areas of the United States during the 20th Century.
It leads one to wonder: overall, in the "Grand Scheme of Things", has the cumulative impact of 'sprawl' since 1950 been generally negative, posititive, or neutral in nature? Furthermore, what would our quality of life be like if as a society, we were not so dependent upon the automobile to make everyday existance possible?
