Trying out an algae scrubber on my 210 Salt. Scrubbers can be used in both fresh and salt water aquariums.
For those not familiar with algae scrubbers, in a nutshell it is an acrylic box that uses lights (in my case two total) that shine on a perforated plastic sheet. The theory is to grow the algae on the sheet in this box, instead of in your display tank. The algae uses phosphates and nutrients in the tank, accelerated by the light to grow quickly. The sheet is easily removed for maintenance, where it is simply scraped off and placed back into the box.
The one I am using is from Aquatic Guyz, it is the AGS-250 model. The scrubber has been running on this tank for 5-6 weeks at the time of this video. I am running the AGS lights for 16 hours/day, they are on opposite schedule of the tank lights. It is growing an abundance of algae in the box, however I think I will need a little more time to decipher whether or not it is making a substantial difference in algae control in the tank itself.
