00:00 Hello my friends.
00:05 In this modelling project I am building a diorama of a World War II European ruined building, in scale 1:35.
01:53 The following project is inspired by real events.
02:24 Since we bought a freezer the other day, I had few big cardboard pieces laying around and I decided to put them to good use, besides the usual recycling 😉
02:34 So, using corrugated cardboard sheets, I will build a diorama of a random European building, ruined by the nightmarish events of World War II.
02:44 It's dimensions are going to be about 30 cm wide and 17 cm tall (about 11.81 x 6.69 inches), since I am going for a 2 story building. Let's go!
02:52 Marking the building's facade, "face" if you will.
03:12 Off camera I marked the 3 entrances, the first floor and its windows markers. Finishing the windows.
03:38 Allow me to demonstrate the size of the building using a figure.
03:44 Made few changes to the design, off camera, for better symmetry.
03:49 Designing approximately some of the parts that will be damaged, like so.
04:06 Cutting with my cutter and my hobby knife. I apologise beforehand for any shake ups on the video while cutting.
04:39 Already cut the arcs of doors and windows. Keep cutting.
04:57 Keep in mind that the cutting is difficult because of the thick corrugated cardboard sheet.
05:33 Designed the side walls off camera. Cutting.
06:23 Off camera, completed this side. Onto the next one.
07:13 For window and entrance frames, PVA gluing some black foam board pieces that I already had cut at 0.5 cm (about 0.19 inches).
07:22 ATTENTION! Keep always in mind that after gluing, painting, etc to let things dry.
08:06 Off camera curved these to match the arcs. Gluing & trimming whenever necessary.
09:21 Hot gluing.
10:19 Prepared this wall for inside the building but it needs more work to be done. Cutting.
10:54 PVA gluing.
11:06 Attaching more pieces that I already had prepared.
11:25 I had made the inside walls about 1 cm shorter (about 0.39 inches), so, I fixed them off camera.
11:31 Gluing the first floor using PVA.
11:41 Hot gluing here and there.
11:53 Did some more work, off camera, for the first floor's walls. Let's keep on going.
12:44 The story so far.
13:01 With blue styrofoam, prepared the building's stairs. However, I will have to damage them and so, with my trustworthy hobby knife, off I go!
13:52 PVA gluing.
13:57 Using black foam board pieces of 0.5 cm (about 0.19 inches) thickness, cutting them into pieces that I will use as a rubble. Some of it will be hanging, other will be laying around.
14:32 Special copper wire for jewellery 0.1 cm (about 0.03 inches). Cocktail stick. PVA glue.
16:07 Balsa wood for the window sills and PVA gluing.
16:45 Ready filler to cover the cardboard holes.
18:52 Because things seemed flat, I decided to damage them a bit, here and there. Double trouble but it is what it is 😢
19:39 Hobby knife bullet holes!
20:48 Styrofoam, balsa wood, cork dust coarse and cork pieces, leftovers basically from this and previous dioramas. Will use them as debris here and there.
21:02 Placing.
23:25 Spraying scenic spray glue and then sprinkling some coarse and fine pebbles.
24:07 Ready filler diluted with little bit of water and "roughing up" the walls.
26:06 Off camera, prepared balsa woods sticks to enhance the windows illusion. Super gluing. Trimming whenever necessary.
27:06 Roughing up the window sills.
27:54 Black primer.
30:02 The frames of doors and windows were too good, so, off camera, I damaged them a bit.
30:08 Dark ocher (ochre) the walls.
30:59 Khaki brown the floors.
31:47 Because the khaki brown was similar to the dark ocher, I mixed Khaki brown with some brown.
32:10 The story so far.
32:25 The building supposedly was burned, so I will leave the walls as is. Black.
32:31 Gray washing.
32:31 Black painting the frames and pillars.
35:57 Black washing on top of the walls, here and there.
36:17 Black washing the floors.
37:28 Brown mixed with yellow and washing.
38:13 Brown washing here and there.
39:24 Hull red washing in few holes here and there. In others, gray washing.
40:44 White dry brushing.
42:34 Flipped the building, in order to black airbrush above the windows and entrances, the smoke and soot that were imprinted on the walls from the explosions and fires. Airbrushing.
44:16 Off camera, painted the hanging rubble. Bending if needed, drilling holes and super gluing, like so.
