The Roland SH-01 GAIA is a virtual analog synthesizer that has been sold by Roland since 2010. It's well known as a great-sounding true knob-per-function synth on which many people have used to learn subtractive synthesis.
However, it has a dirty little secret: It's not actually a virtual analog synthesizer. I explain what this means, and demonstrate how we can tell.
