Aphek (Antipatris)
Located in the central district of the country north of Tel Aviv and not to be confused with northern Afek near Akko.
Today Aphek, also known as Tel Aphek or Yarkon National Park, is a beautiful place and very popular among Israelis who love to visit the place for recreation with their families. Thanks to the springs of Rosh Ha’Ayin, this area is rich in flora and fauna, allowing humans to inhabit the area for thousands of years.
The city is located on the ancient trade route known by the Romans as the Via Maris. It is also mentioned in Egyptian records in the 15th C BC during the campaign of Thutmose III against the local ruler for insurrection in the ancient Levant.
The ancient Philistines camped in the area when they were at war against the Israelites and the Ark of the Covenant was lost (1 Samuel 4:1).
