Henry “Black Death” Johnson was in the first African American unit of the U.S. Army to engage in combat in World War I – with the 369th infantry regiment. He was finally awarded the Purple Heart in 1996; the Distinguished Service Cross In 2002, and On June 2, 2015 he was pahst-you-muss-lee awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions…over there.
