I was fascinated by the idea of a 3D mouse but could not really justify buying one given how little 3D CAD I do. What I can justify is building stuff for fun, and when I found all the DIY SpaceNavigator projects did not actually do six degrees of freedom, I embarked on a mission to build the first true 6DOF DIY open hardware 3D CAD mouse.
