If you formed an EIN for your business and later determined you don't need the EIN, you probably want to cancel the EIN with the IRS.

Unfortunately, an EIN can never really be "canceled" with the IRS. You can write to the IRS and close the business account. This lets the IRS know they should not expect to receive any future tax filings under this EIN.
