The 13th Warrior movie has a cult like status among scandinavians and people worldwide who admire the feats of the seafaring, exploring and raiding scandinavians during the viking age, hailing from present day Denmark, Norway and Sweden. In this scene you can hear danish, norwegian and swedish as an ode to the ancestors.
It is a fictional movie loosely based on ''Beowulf" a story set in pagan Scandinavia in the 6th century. Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, comes to the aid of Hrothgar, the king of the Danes, whose mead hall in Heorot has been under attack by the monster Grendel.
And Aḥmad ibn Faḍlān ibn al-ʿAbbās ibn Rāšid ibn Ḥammād, (c. 879–960) commonly known as Ahmad ibn Fadlan, was a 10th-century Arab Muslim traveler, famous for his account of his travels as a member of an embassy of the Abbasid caliph, al-Muqtadir of Baghdad.
His account is most notable for providing a detailed description of the Volga Vikings (Varangians), including eyewitness accounts of life as part of a trade caravan and witnessing a ship burial.
The Volga Vikings / Varangians were scandinavians who explored and raided down the eastern European rivers all the way to Constantinople (present day Istanbul) during the Viking Age.
