The Election Commission took suo motu cognizance of the "free door-step ration delivery" announcement made by CM Mamata Banerjee. The commission has sought a report from Purulia district authorities regarding the same.
EC has asked whether Mamata Banerjee promised any new public welfare scheme, which is a violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) currently in place in the poll-bound state. The election body has also sought unedited videography of Banerjee's public meeting to ascertain the matter.
TMC is scheduled to release its poll manifesto on Wednesday (March 17) where it is likely to announce the 'Duare Ration' scheme promising delivery of free ration to households if it comes to power. Banerjee allegedly made an announcement regarding the scheme during her public meeting in Purulia.
