Soma Bay is a coastal resort on the Red Sea in Egypt, 45 km south of Hurghada International Airport. The ten million m², self-contained community of Soma Bay is a peninsula surrounded on all sides by the sea. About 5 km in length and 2 km wide, the peninsula is accessed via a 7 km private road through a single controlled entry gate.
Soma Bay features some of the best Red Sea diving with its house reef and a variety of nearby diving sites. The five resorts (Sheraton, Robinson Club, The Westin, Kempinski and The Breakers Diving & Surfing Lodge) also have access to an 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course and golf academy designed by Gary Player. Soma Bay also features one of the largest spas and thalassotherapy centers in the region. Watersports are particularly popular due to the prevailing winds which are perfect for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing.
Soma Bay ist eine ägyptische Bucht am Roten Meer. Sie liegt rund 50 Kilometer südlich von Hurghada und etwa 15 Kilometer nördlich von Safaga, gehört zum Bezirk Safaga im Gouvernement al-Bahr al-ahmar.
An der Soma Bay befinden sich mehrere Hotels, Kernstück ist das in sich geschlossene gleichnamige Resort auf der Halbinsel, die umgangssprachlich ebenfalls Soma Bay genannt wird. Die rund zehn Quadratkilometer große Halbinsel Ras Abu Soma ist etwa fünf Kilometer lang und zwei Kilometer breit. Sie war ursprünglich Lebensraum unter anderen von zahlreichen seltenen Vogelarten und von Schildkröten. Die touristischen Angebote des Resorts konzentrieren sich auf Sporttauchen, Golf, Windsurfen, Kitesurfen und Wellness.
Die strandnahen Korallenriffe in der Bucht sowie das Saumriff sind bekannt für ihre Artenvielfalt und werden regelmäßig von mehreren Tauchbooten angesteuert.
