Mork is one of the most conflicting areas in Syria at this moment mainly because it is on the main highway leading from Hama northwards towards Khan Sheikhoun which was under strong rebel attack, it holds a strategic importance because it has supply lines running towards Idlib.
Mork is known to have a small Alawite population. Rebels with AL-Nusra fighters seized the town in fierce fighting overnight on February 1, cutting a strategic supply line for the Syrian government that runs from Hama city north to two military bases in neighboring Idlib province: Wadi Deif and Hamidiyeh.
The Syrian Army recently launched a operation to retake Mork from the rebels the area has been shelled and heavy fighting has been reported everywhere from North to South Mork.
According to opposition sources the shelling of the Army has cost many lives and rebels have asked for reinforcements to be sent to Mork.
Activists in the Syrian town of Kafr Zita, in the Hama governorate, reported that the Islamic Front And Al-Nusra Front deployed reinforcements to the city of Mork.
Clashes are still going on and the Syrian Army is using heavy firepower to advance into the city. For the rebels this town must be secured in order to make progress and be able to advance to towards Khan Sheikhoun.
