Knowing where each gear slot is located and shifting at proper rpm's and timing those shifts right makes for simple shifting. Usually i'm shifting whole handed but i'm making a point of the little effort required, I've seen students trying to muscle the stick shift into position but having difficulty due to over-revving, loosing the 'timing': forgetting the 400 rpm spread between each gear and or double clutching too slow or too fast and or trying to shift diagonally rather than using the 'H' pattern.
