A protest was held on Cumbrae on 25 Feb 2023 against the proposal to build a solar farm at its highest point.
Cumbrae is a small island of the West Coast of Scotland where it rains 183 days of the year. The solar farm would not benefit its 1,300 residents. It would blight a popular beauty spot and affect the local economy which relies on tourism. The proposal is 1.3% of the island's area, the equivalent of 22 football pitches.
