When considering an electric vehicle in South Africa right now, it does feel like you need to sell your home and maybe an organ to afford one. Besides the i3, all of the EVs on sale in SA are listed at well over a million Rand, and most of them are over R2million.
However, for some time now, Mini has had the Cooper Hatch SE on offer, at a price point south of R700,000, making it the most affordable electric car in South Africa.
And so, we sent our video guy, Ciro De Siena, to work out whether this car is worth the money. With a compact battery capacity of 32kWh, and a claimed range of 215km, is the Mini SE limited to being a city commuter, or can it be the electric car South Africans want and need it to be?
