Up at 5.15am to cross the Denwa Backwaters and enter Satpura Tiger Reserve, a beautiful park in Madya Pradesh. It has to be one of India's most scenic Tiger Reserves in central India, the diversity of the terrain is impressive, its staff very professional. It is a National Park that is well worth while visiting for those who enjoy watching wildlife at peace in their natural environment.
Satpura Tiger Reserve in India's Madhya Pradesh State 2,200 km2 (850 sq mi) of unique central Indian highland ecosystem. The terrain is extremely rugged from 300 to 1,352 metres (984 to 4,436 ft) with sandstone peaks, narrow gorges, ravines and dense forests.
It has 1,300 species of plants, 50 species of mammals, 254 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles, and 50 species of butterflies. It is also known as Satpura National Park joined Project Tiger in 2000. Its name is from the Satpura mountain range. Some grasslands were created by relocation of 23 villages from the core area of the reserve. It has about 40 tigers so one has a probability of seeing tigers one in every drives. For us it was special as it was not over run by tourist jeeps. This is a record of our drives.
